Servant of Evil ch 7

The villagers trap me in Rin's room. The doors are locked and the windows barred, but I can hear my sister in the vents above my head. I trained for ten years to become my sister's personal servant, but I'm doing this because she's my sister, not because she's my Princess. Meiko unlocks the door and takes me out. I hear Rin shuffling through the air vents. I just hope Meiko doesn't notice.

My hands and feet are chained as I'm dragged to another small room. The vents creak and I know Rin followed me all the way here. I'm surprised she doesn't squirm at all the dirt. Maybe she's trying not to because she's going to start a new life as a regular person. Rin might be practicing.

Meiko comes back and takes me out again. I hear Rin climbing down out of the vent like I told her to. I'm led to the guillotine by Meiko and the chains are taken off my hands and feet. She ties my hands with a rope. My head is placed on the head rest. The executioner rattles off for more than a few minutes.

The church bells start to go off and I scan the crowd for Rin. Tears are flowing down her face once more. I stare right into her eyes to let her know everything is okay. The second chime rings through the crowd. I play my part in the game that saves my sister. "Oh, it's tea time." The third bell rings and the swoosh of the falling blade is the last thing I hear.
