Literature Text

The long ship ride brings back memories. I have lived in the Blue kingdom for ten years and now I'm returning as if I were on vacation. When we land, I start to run toward the familiar beach, forgetting why I'm here. "Len! Don't run off without your Princess! I do not wish to soil my dress in this wet sand." I come back with a smile. "Princess Rin, I know the Blue kingdom well. Perhaps it is time for me to help you find you way around this port side town until we return home. But maybe we should disguise you. Many people are ready to kill you on sight." She looks slightly hurt, but she shakes it off.

"Len, what a wonderful idea. I have one question, though. Where is the castle?" My eyes widen. She must think I am staying in the castle. "Because I am only here at your request, I will not be staying with you. I will be staying at a local inn not far from the castle. Once we reach the inn, a royal escort will take you the rest of the way." I take her back on to the boat to get the disguise.

"Len! You have to stay with me in the castle! I won't accept anything else!" Rin crosses her arms. I smile in understanding. "My Lady, it isn't that simple. We pushed very far for you to be able to bring me. If we push any further, we could invoke war."  She sighs. "You're right. We will have to leave things the way they are." I smile and go in for a hug. "That's the sister I know."  I take her hand and lead her through the crowds.
"There's the inn!" I try to tell Rin this but I don't think she can hear me over all the noise. I give the escort the bag with Rin's suitcases hidden inside of it. He leads her out into the crowds once more. I turn and enter the inn. A man is sitting behind a small table covered with papers. I walk over to him.

"Excuse me, I think I'm supposed to have a room here." He looks up and shakes his head. "Sorry, every room is taken. Try somewhere else, kid." He goes back to the papers. "Oh, wait." I pull out a letter Rin gave me in case this sort of thing happened. He takes it and reads the contents. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize—just follow me." He stands and goes down a small hallway. I follow him to a room that is bigger than I expected. "This is our finest room, but it still doesn't have much to offer. Stay as long as you like. I'll keep it reserved for you."

I thank the man as he leaves. I have no idea what Rin put in that letter, but whatever it was worked. I put my bag on a chair and sink into the matching one. Although I'm tired, I don't fall asleep. Instead, I go out in the town. I take a little walk around. I don't see anyone I used to hang around with. I just walk in a big loop until I reach the inn once more. This time, when I throw myself onto the bed, I fall asleep instantly.
I want to sleep more, but a messenger wakes me up and tells me Rin wants to see me. The messenger leaves after he conveys this message. I'm surprised Rin is up so early, but I get ready and head over to the castle. She's wearing one of the disguises we came up with, so I take her down to the beach to play game.

By the time we finish and head back to the castle, the town is crowded again. Rin has me come into the castle with her. She changes into her dress and has me adjust the skirt. The council members who came with us have most of their things packed. Rin is as surprised as I am based on her face. "What is the meaning of this? Why are we leaving so early?" The council becomes quiet. I jump, sensing something behind me. I turn to see who or what it is. Rin does the same. We find ourselves facing Prince Kaito.

"Princess Rin, we received word from the rest of the Yellow council that there have been small revolts since you left. It seems that these are becoming too much to handle without you there. I suggested that you should go back and figure this out." Rin sighs after Prince Kaito answers her question.  "If my kingdom is facing a challenge, than I shall answer. We will have to leave as soon as possible. Len! Come and help me pack. I am so sorry, Prince Kaito. We will have to finish this visit some other time."

I follow Rin to the room she is staying in. The suitcases are in the corner of the room. I go over and pull them out. "Lady Rin, I think it would be best if I stayed here for the time being." I start to put the dresses away. Rin isn't quiet for long. "Len! Why would you want to stay here?" I pause and look up at my sister. "I've noticed the way you look at Prince Kaito," Rin blushes. "and I think he might be in an affair with someone else. I've heard rumors, but I haven't actually been able to tell if this is just a rumor or not."

Rin is unable to speak for a while. When she is able to collect her thoughts, she clears her throat. "Len, in that case, stay here and investigate this rumor. Keep me updated with your findings through letters. I will send instructions to you." I nod and finish packing. One of the council members takes the suitcases onto the boat for Rin. I head back into town with one goal in mind: find out if this rumor is truly a rumor or not.
